Finger Cookies
These Finger Cookies were a hit at my last party. I used
an urn filled with small dry beans (also try rice) and covered
with crumbled chocolate cookies to look like dirt. Then stood
cookies upright in urn. (Source: Martha Stewart).
Ingredients
Cookie Dough:
1 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. almond extract
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 ¾ cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
OR for those who don't' have a lot of
time, use refrigerated cookie dough
¾ cup whole blanched almonds
red food coloring
red decorator gel
new small artist brush
Directions: Preheat oven to 325°F.
Lightly grease your cookie sheet. To make cookie dough, mix
dry ingredients in a bowl. In a separate large bowl, beat
together butter, sugar, egg, almond and vanilla extracts.
Gradually add dry ingredients and blend.
Cover and refrigerate dough for 30 minutes, this will make
it easier to shape the cookie dough.
Work with a ¼ of the cookie dough at a time,
leaving the remaining chilled in the refrigerator. Take
about a full teaspoon of cookie dough and shape into a
finger. You can get creative and draw knuckle lines and even
a cut mark on the finger. Once shaped, press an almond
firmly onto the finger for the nail. Using the artist brush
paint the almond with red dye, giving a painted fingernail
look. Continue making cookies to fill cookie sheet. Bake
for 20-25 minutes ( or according to packaged refrigerator
dough). Let cool a few minutes.
If you desire, you can add red decorator gel
to create a bloody finger look. You can gently lift almond
and put gel underneath giving the appearance of oozing blood
from the nail. Or if you marked a cut on the finger, then
add the gel for oozing blood.
