Supplies Needed:

Black Construction Paper ( I used

the heavier weighted paper found in

           Teacher supplies stores or office

            stores)

       White Card Stock Paper

      Circle Cutter or Scissors

      Red Permanent Fine Point Marker

      Craft glue

Directions:  An 8.5 x 11 inch black paper can make two invitations. Cut paper in half making two 8.5 x 5.5 halves. Take each half and fold over creating a 4.25 x 5.5 invitation. You want to make the circle width 4.25, and make sure you leave a 1" crease on the fold to make the invitation open and close or stand up.  You can also use a circle cutter and cut the circle, just leave the 1 inch top uncut.   On white card stock cut two 3" diameter circles for the insides and one 3" circle for the front of the invitation.  Glue all circles onto invitation. Use permanent red marker to write party information.

Suggested Saying for cover:

"Race On Over"

Suggested Saying for inside:

Top circle: Driver (Birthday Child's Name) Celebrates His (age) Race! i.e.:

                Driver

             John Smith

             Celebrates

               His 8th

                Race!

Bottom circle:  Include date, time, location, rsvp information. i.e.:

Race Date: ___________

Start Time: ___________

Finish Time: __________

Track Location:___________________

Add lots of black white, red, and blue balloons.

Personalize your own party banner with this Rally Banner or use our black and white check banner.
Rally Banner

Add a few traffic lights to brighten the party room!

8" Traffic Light

Our Black & White checks come in value packs for larger crowds. Add your child's favorite race car color to the scheme with our solid paper goods.

NASCAR with Stripes 3' x 5' Flag

Place NASCAR race car and driver posters up around the room.

Used small lawn mower tires (find at Wal-Mart) for cute tire balloon weights.

Use a Hot Wheels carrying cases or heavy cars for balloon weights. If using Hot Wheel cars, then you can give a balloon per guest to take home with a car favor attached.

Black & White Check Bandanas for placemats on a solid black, blue or red table cover.

Fill a small sandwich bag with sand or rice, seal and twist with a rubber band or twisty tie. Hook a large paper clip to bag top. Use Black & White Check bandanas to wrap around it to make a decorative balloon weight. Tie balloons to paper clip.

Line driveway and sidewalk with checkered flags.

Favor Bags: Use our Black Treat sacks and decorate them with NASCAR stickers or put favors in a black & white checkered bandana and tie with black & red curling ribbon.

See Party Photos below for setting up an outdoor race track for party games and activities.

GAME IDEAS

Box Car Race w/Pit Stop

Pit Stop Race

Pin the....

Using the Box Car Activity described below, have teams race their box cars around a track. Designate how many laps (I use the age of the birthday child) each team must do. Also require each team to take a pit stop on a specific lap.  At the pit stop they must pretend to fill car with fuel (use small watering cans, they must fill a cup with water) and change tires  (change 4 paper plate tires to 4 new colored paper plate tires).  Watch for those crashes!   (See Party Photos below.)

This is the same concept of the Pit Stop in the race, but use a stationary box with four paper plate tires to change and a fuel cup to fill.  Each guest gets timed to see who can change the four tires and fill the fuel cup the fastest!

Use the standard game and convert it to a race theme with these ideas:

       1. Helmet on the Race

           Driver

       2. Tire on the Car

       3. Number on the Car

For any of these try to find a poster or a picture you can enlarged. I like to have all my game boards like this laminated. Then make pieces from felt, construction paper or foam craft. Use masking tape on the back or I like to use removable mounting squares.

We Got Your Number  Mini Car Races

Roll A Tire Relay

Prior to the party, cut out car and helmet shapes. On each car put a current race car number. On each helmet put a current Race Car Driver's name.   You can divide the group into teams and let each team do a handful each. Or let the whole group try to work together and figure out which driver belongs to which car.    Race on a track or use a car shooter to see whose matchbox car goes the farthest. (See Party Photos below.)

Using small car tires or motorcycle tires, set up a course for individual or team tire rolling races.  (See Party Photos below.)

Pass the ....  Winner's Circle

Nuts & Bolts

Play like Hot Potato, but call it Pass the Helmet or pass the tire (use a new small lawn mower tire).   This is a version of musical chairs.  Instead of chairs, you can cut out tires, car numbers or trophy shapes. Have them laminated and place them on the floor or ground.  To start place shapes on the floor (1 less than the number of children playing).  The children move in a circle around cut outs while music plays. When the music stops, each child must place at least one foot on the shape.  The one who doesn't have one is out. Continue playing (removing a shape each round) until you have a winner. Using a large jar, fill it with nut and bolts (count how many as you fill it). You can decorate the lid to the jar with black/white check material.  Have each guest guess how many nuts and bolts are in the jar. Have small pieces of paper  and pencils ready for kids to write down their name and guess.  At the end of the party announce the winner and present with a prize!

Racing Trivia Game

Race Dart Game

Have a racing trivia game between two teams of guests.  Decide on how many questions and the team with the most correct answers wins. Make sure you have plenty of questions and tie breaker questions. Set a limit to how many questions each team has to try to answer.   If one team doesn't get their question right, the other team can discuss and decide if they know the answer and may try to guess to earn additional points.

I created this game for a party. I bought Race Car birthday wrapping paper. I cut a fairly large piece and had it laminated. This particular wrapping paper has pictures of cars all with various numbers and the pattern repeats.  I divided the guest into teams and each team player gets a shot at throwing a sticky dart at the board. Hitting any part of the car gets that team points based on the number of the car.  If the car had number 10, the team got 10 points. The first team to hit 100 Points wins!

ACTIVITIES

Pit Crew Photos

Driver Photo Frame

Vanity License Plates

Fun way to greet guest! Using a Polaroid camera take instant photos of your guest as they arrive. Set up a photo corner by draping our black and white check table cover on the wall.  Using a single hole punch, punch a hole in the top of the photo. Use plastic name tag necklaces (found at office supply stores) and attach to photo.  Using permanent marker write drivers name on bottom of the photo.   Another opening activity with some crafting.  Using a Polaroid camera, take a photo of your guest. As suggested in the Pit Crew Photo, set up a black and white check background.  Then provide each guest with a precut foam or paper frame to decorate with race car stickers, markers, glitter glue, etc.  Let frames dry, then add photos for guest to take home as a party favor.

Another fun opening activity is to allow each guest to create a Race Driver Vanity Plate.  Use a large rectangular(5" x 11") piece of foam craft per child. Use foam stick letters and numbers found at craft stores for the kids to decorate their plate.  Limit lettering to about 8 to fit on piece, also depends on the size of your lettering. If you can't find the foam craft use mailbox lettering.

Examples of wording:

  #1 RACER

  JOHN #10

  WINNER

  100 LAPS

  TRKSIDE

Build A Lego™ Car

Decorate Box Cars for Racing

Race Car Piñata

Using Lego™ pieces from your child's collection or purchase new ones, let each guest create their own Lego™ car.  This could also be a party favor to take home.

Prior to party:  Collect boxes for this event. The boxes must be large enough for a child to stand inside. Cut out top and bottom. Cut handles in sides. Paint each box car a different color. Purchase race stickers, large felt stick numbers, markers, paper plates for wheels, Velcro strips for attaching and removing plates, 2" stretchable band for ease of racing (see photo below) inch and cut out large yellow circles for headlights, red rectangles for tail lights from foam craft.  You can get creative and add a steering wheel and other car accessories.  Pre package into large plastic bags a set for each team.  Two or three kids per box/team is best.

At Party:  Divide kids into teams and give each team a car and their decorating bag to decorate.  Estimate about 15- 30 minutes to decorate, depending on age group.  Take photos of each team member in their decorated car or take a team photo with one member as the driver with a race helmet on.  (See Party Photos below.)
